The Need to Reform Africas Economy - 1372 Words

Over the last 50 years, Africa has received aid from all over the world, yet with all it has been given from charity work, donations and economic aid there still has been no progress in most African countries. The controversy surrounding Africas economic state is that while the continent is plentiful with natural resources and potential trading partners, it seems that the resources are being wasted because there is no revenue coming into the economy and the people are still in a horrid state of poverty. Africa needs to revolve reforms in the government to potentially fix the crisis instead of relying on aid from around the world. Africa’s economy has been caused by the poverty and warfare in many of the countries. People have studied and tried to understand what exactly is causing Africa to be so economically, socially and culturally unstable, and it all seems to root back to the colonial ages and its systems; therefore, leading to a large gap in financial status in Africa (Brower and â€Å"Rural Poverty Portal†). With most of the rural areas in Africa being in a state of poverty, these people are reliant on agriculture for their source of food and wellbeing. And in Sub-Sahara Africa there is nearly 220 million Africans that are deemed as poor. Diseases like HIV/AIDS play a role in many people’s lives in Africa; on the continent alone there is more than 34 million suffering from these diseases.
